Ants South Africa – Ant Nests And Outworld’s
AAC Nests
AAC has a long list of benefits over other types of nests. Just a few of these are; the moisture-retentive properties that lead to stable humidity levels to its excellent insulative properties, helping to keep temperature fluctuations to a minimum and the material’s porous surface, making it easy for ants to grip onto, as well as aiding the developing larvae in the spinning of their protective silken cocoons. AAC is perfect for the job!
AAC IS:
- Non-toxic
- Highly sustainable
- Produced locally in Australia
- Naturally mold resistant
- A fantastic thermal insulator
- Moisture retentive with high dispersion qualities
Acrylic lids for freestanding AAC nests:
The removable, clear acrylic lids are secured in place by stainless steel bolts which are screwed into the Ytong. This not only provides a clearer view of the ants but also allows easy removal of the lid for cleaning purposes.
The entrance/exit holes are designed to fit standard 16mm internal tubing. This allows the ants to travel in and out of the nest easily. This also allows larger species to comfortably enter/exit the nest.
How to hydrate:
Our AAC nests require around 5-10 ml of water every 4 to 6 days, depending upon temperature and the ant species being housed.
To reduce the risk of ‘over-hydration of the nest, moisten the sponge slowly so that the water can be properly absorbed. AAC or Ytong is a highly porous material so shortly after hydration, the sponge may appear to be dry, however, this not a sign that the nest is in need of more moisture, the water has simply transferred into the AAC itself. It is the AAC that regulates the humidity of the nest by slowly releasing this moisture evenly over time, not the sponges.
Outworlds
What is an Outworld? An Outworld is the designated space for an ant colony to forage for food, and dispose of their garbage.
Our specially built, handmade, crystal clear acrylic Outworlds! Guaranteed to be 100% escape proof! As long as you close the lid!
To liven the outworld up, we advise using sand or soil, rocks, sticks, live plants, or even fake plants, depending on your ant species.
To clean the outworlds, it can easily be detached, washed under warm water, and reused.
We use a laser cutter and cut out all the required pieces. These are then assembled, locking into the 3D printed base and lid, we then use Marine silicone to seal the edges. Resulting in an extremely secure and sturdy construction.
Our 3D printed bases and lids are used with PLA and the designs that you see on the website are all our own designs.
The lids are fitted with a sliding acrylic lid that closes fully and fits tightly to ensure no escapees.
Our outworld and nests can easily be expanded by joining other nests and outworlds, so as your colony of ants grows, you are able to give them more space to do so.
We pride ourselves in offering a product that is not only extremely effective for the keeping of ants, but is also highly practical and aesthetically pleasing!Â
